State Budget

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore) (14:26:49):

My question is addressed to the Treasurer, and Minister for Energy. Will the Treasurer update the House on how the budget will secure a brighter future for New South Wales' families?

Mr MATT KEAN (HornsbyTreasurer, and Minister for Energy) (14:26:59):

— I sure can. We have delivered a reforming budget that supports the families and businesses today and sets us up for a brighter future tomorrow. Who does not love this budget? I tell you what. Those opposite love it. How do I know? Because they have been texting me, telling me, "What a great budget. What great policies. Can we borrow some?" That is what they were texting me. The only ones not happy about it were miserable Minns and moaning Mookhey, with no plans, no vision, no ideas for the people of New South Wales.

Mr Ron Hoenig:

Point of order: My point of order is taken under Standing Order 129. The Treasurer was asked specifically—

The SPEAKER:

The Treasurer is being relevant.

Mr MATT KEAN:

The Leader of the Opposition told caucus, "I've got a plan." What he did not tell them was it was only a plan to take the top job.

Mr Ron Hoenig:

Point of order—

The SPEAKER:

I have just ruled on relevance and it is too soon for the member for Heffron to take another point of order. The Treasurer may continue.

Mr MATT KEAN:

We have a positive plan for New South Wales. It is about supporting families dealing with the effects of COVID. We are seeing increases in cost-of-living pressures. This Government is delivering over 70 cost-of-living initiatives to support families with their household bills at this time. We are not only supporting families today but also investing in the things that will help families and build a stronger and more prosperous future for everyone tomorrow. We are investing record amounts in child care because we want to unlock the potential of every person in this State. Our plan for child care will see us increase the female participation rate in this country and grow the overall size of size of our economy by $17.1 billion per annum. That is what Coalition governments deliver, creating opportunities for everyone to realise their hopes and aspirations, while growing the economy and delivering more prosperity for everyone.

The SPEAKER:

I call the member for Canterbury to order for the first time.

Mr MATT KEAN:

One of the things we are doing is investing in our kids because in investing in our kids we are investing in the future of New South Wales.

The SPEAKER:

I call the member for Prospect to order for the first time.

Mr MATT KEAN:Extension of time

Opposition members hate it because good news for New South Wales is bad news for the Labor Party. No wonder Minns is so miserable. No wonder Mookhey is moaning so much. Good news for the people of New South Wales is bad news for Labor. []

We are investing in our kids because we know that the more we invest in our kids under five, the greater chance we give them to thrive. That is an investment this Government is proud to make. We know that by supporting our kids in getting the best start in life, we set them up for success on their life journey. That is what this Coalition Government has always been about. We are also making it easier for people to get into the housing market, for first home owners to buy their own home. We are getting rid of one of the worst taxes that is a barrier to young people entering the housing market. Who does not like it? Who wants more tax? The Opposition, led by miserable Minns, who loves tax and loves budget deficits. We want to unlock the housing opportunities for thousands of young people across this State because we know that owning one's own home means that one is owning a stake in the future of New South Wales.

The SPEAKER:

Order! There is too much audible conversation in the Chamber.

Mr MATT KEAN:

That is what Coalition governments have always been about. We are investing also in the regions because we back the bush. We are unlocking the potential of everyone living in the regions because we think that everyone should be able to succeed no matter where they live—whether it be in the cities or in the bush.

The SPEAKER:

I call the member for Shellharbour to order for the first time.

Mr MATT KEAN:

That is the difference between a Coalition government and those opposite. Finally, we are investing in building the energy system of the future that will keep the lights on and make sure that we are resilient against aging infrastructure and global commodity shocks.

The SPEAKER:

I call the member for Londonderry to order for the first time.

Mr MATT KEAN:

Who hates it? Those opposite.

The SPEAKER:

I call the member for Londonderry to order for the second time.

Mr MATT KEAN:

They have no ideas. They have no policies. They have no vision for this State. The contrast between us on this side of the House and those opposite could not be more stark.

The SPEAKER:

I call the member for Rockdale to order for the first time.
