Scotland-Australia Cairn

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore) (17:20:36):

Mosman plays a special role as home to the Scotland‑Australia Cairn, which was established for the bicentenary with stones from every parish across Scotland, symbolising our nations' shared connection. On Tuesday morning Mosman was graced with the heartwarming sound of bagpipes marking the annual inspection of the Scotland-Australia Cairn. This year we were fortunate enough to have the inspection carried out by the Hon. Simon Abney Hastings, 15th Earl of Loudoun, who interestingly also carried one of the gold spurs at the recent coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. I recognise Mosman Council for its 35 years of custodianship of the cairn, and all the representatives of the various clans who attended to oversee the inspection of the cairn. I proudly channelled my Elliott and Kennedy bloodlines, and I even had a go swinging the impressive Mosman Council claymore, which was dutifully carried by deputy mayor and warden Roy Bendall. The inspection of the cairn is just one of a number of events that mark Scottish Week in Australia. I acknowledge the Scottish Australian Heritage Council for keeping the Scottish spirit alive and well in Australia.
