Vale Major Jack Skipper Mc

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)

—Speaker, It is with great sadness that I acknowledge the passing of a much-loved Mosman local Major Jack Harold Skipper MC. Born in Perth in 1930 Jack graduated from Royal Military College Duntroon in 1951 and served in the Korean war with 1st Battalion Royal Australian Regiment, where he was made a Major at the age of just twenty-eight, and was awarded the Military Cross for leadership and gallantry in presence of the enemy. He was made commanding officer of Australia's first commando unit stationed at Georges Heights in 1959 after marrying Lynette Jacobs, a Mosman local. After he retired from the armed forces Jack had a number of senior roles with companies such as Philips and Jantzen was also involved in the learn-to-swim programs at the Balmoral Baths in the 1970's. Jack leaves behind his beloved wife Lynette, children Mark and Juliet, and eleven grandchildren and great grandchildren, and my thoughts go out to his family and friends at this sad time. In a eulogy given by Allan Miles OAM he said of Jack, "Jack Skipper MC. Go to your rest. Your duty is done." Vale Major Skipper.
