Farewell to Oracle Books Mosman

Ms FELICITY WILSON (North Shore)

—Speaker, I would like to recognise the closure of Oracle Books after nearly 30 years in Mosman. Oracle Books on the corner of Spit Road and Military Road in the heart of Spit Junction has been a stalwart of the Mosman community for many years. The owner of the store, Mansour Ardestani, founded Oracle in 1991, which soon became a popular stop-off shop for books, toys and puzzles. Mr Ardestani has stated that the reason for the closure is a drop in sales which he attributes to fierce competition with e-commerce and an increase of people reading books digitally. This was felt especially with children's books as reading habits have drastically changed. I would like to commend Mr Ardestani and everybody else involved in Oracle Books over the years for their service to the Mosman community over such a long period of time. I know that the store has become very close to the hearts of many who will be sad to see it close. As unfortunate as the closure of Oracle Books is, I believe that an early retirement is well-deserved.
